Before being awarded the ‘c’ test certificate, candidates must have trained for and passed either the pony club’s road rider achievement badge, the pony club road rider test, or the bhs riding and road safety test.

Before taking the c+ test, candidates must have passed the c test, including the road rider achievement badge. Riders may be required to change horses or ponies for some flat work.

Road Rider Test

The Pony Club Recommend that young riders who have passed the Road Rider Test should be encouraged to take the BHS Road Safety Test before riding on the road unaccompanied and even then only when the person responsible for their safety is entirely satisfied that, in their opinion, it is safe for the young person(s) to do so.

Recommended Minimum Age: Must be over 12 years old

B Test

The ‘B’ Test may be taken as a whole or in two parts:

These Tests may be taken on different occasions and in any order. Before taking the ‘B’ Test, Candidates must have passed the ‘C+’ Test and The Pony Club Road Rider Test or the BHS Riding & Road Safety Test.

Recommended Minimum Age: 15. Only those 14 years or over are eligible for B Standard.

Coaching Certificate

Before taking the Coaching Certificate, Candidates must have passed the B Test.

It is recommended that Candidates should have attended the Year 1 and Year 2 Pony Club ‘Introduction to Coaching’ Courses and attend First Aid and Child Protection Training.

Lunging Test

Before taking the Lunging Test, Candidates must have passed the B Test or B Standard Horse & Pony Care. It is necessary to pass the Lunging Test before attempting the AH Test. This Test is examined by an AH Examiner.

AH Test

The Pony Club A Test is the highest Test within The Pony Club structure. It is recognized worldwide and is very much sought after!

The AH Test is the Stable Management phase of the A Test. As from 1st January 2001, the Test features a Mares and Foals Section that was formally in the A Test Riding Test.

Those who have passed B (horse & pony care) Test only and have been recommended after an assessment by an AH examiner can also take the Test.

Nominations must be made to The Pony Club Office on the official form having first been sanctioned by the District Commissioner and Area Representative.
